Q&A

What is the Portuguese League of Bioinformatics?

The Portuguese League of Bioinformatics (LPB) is a competition in the field of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, inspired by its Brazilian counterpart. The LPB is aimed at higher education students interested in Biology, Computer Science and Bioinformatics and the national Bioinformatics community. It is an opportunity to promote and integrate a community of current and future researchers and professionals in Bioinformatics, as well as a stimulus for expanding knowledge and skills in this area.

Who can participate?

Participation in the LPB will take place in 2-member teams. At the time of registration, all participants must be over 18 years old and enrolled in higher education institutions, regardless of the cycle of education. Per team, only one member with a doctoral degree obtained up to two years ago will be admitted.

How will the competition take place?

The LPB will be divided into three rounds. Rounds one and two will be classification and elimination rounds.

The first round will consist of a set of 30 multiple-choice questions. Teams that achieve a score of 50% or more in each of the areas will qualify for the next stage.

The second round will consist of 5 computational biology challenges and the teams with the best scores will qualify for the next phase.

The third round will consist in the development of a project proposed by the organising committee. Each team's project will be presented in 15-minute seminars during the Bioinformatics Open Days event in Braga.

Schedule

The LPB schedule will be as follows:

The first round will be held on 7 February 2025 at 11:00 am (GMT) and the results will be made available by 14 february 2025.

The second round will be held on 27 and 28 February 2025 and the results will be available by 7 March 2025.

The third round will begin immediately after the publication of the results of the second round. This phase will be concluded at the Bioinformatics Open Days event, to be held between 26 and 28 March 2025.

How to participate?

Applications for the LPB will be made via this electronic form. The deadline for applications will be 24 January 2025.
